WHY FEED EZIUM METABOLIC?

Some horses face extra challenges. EZium Metabolic provides all the benefits of regular EZium plus the added support provided by KemTRACE chromium propionate, the only FDA-reviewed source of Chromium for horses.

KemTRACE CHROMIUM: Essential to you and your operation.

One 70g scoop of EZium Metabolic provided twice daily supplies the levels of Chromium proven by research to reduce the levels of insulin, glucose, and the stress hormone cortisol in the blood when fed regularly.

THE RESEARCH

A study recently published in the prestigious Journal of Animal Science proved that the level of chromium from KemTRACE chromium propionate supplied in EZium Metabolic increased insulin sensitivity in adult horses following consumption of a carbohydrate (grain) meal.

WHAT IS CHROMIUM?

Chromium is an essential nutrient involved in insulin-dependent processes such as carbohydrate, protein and lipid metabolism. Chromium works together with Magnesium to help insulin bind efficiently to cellular receptors responsible for glucose uptake.

KemTRACE Chromium activates insulin receptors, enabling more glucose to enter cells, increasing available energy, and improving overall horse health and performance.
TAKE THE QUIZ

CHROMIUM DEFICIENCY

A lack of Chromium can lead to elevated levels of insulin and glucose in the blood. High levels of these compounds are associated with Equine Metabolic Syndrome.

Symptoms of this syndrome include:
• Obesity or fat accumulation in certain areas, like the neck
• Insulin disregulation
• Hyperinsulinemia, which predisposes horses to developing laminitis

CHROMIUM AND STRESS

Stress negatively impacts health and performance. Stressors include diet changes, travel, exercise, disease exposure, and more. When under stress, horses release cortisol (a stress hormone), which may result in aggressive behavior, suppression of the immune system and increased risk of ulcers, colic or diarrhea. Chromium has been shown to reduce the levels of cortisol and decrease the negative impacts of stress.

Glycogen and the Athletic Horse

Carbohydrates and fats supply the bulk of the energy to horses during exercise and use of each depends on the intensity of the exercise. During lower intensity exercise, approximately 42 percent of energy is supplied through the oxidation of fat, versus 58 percent from carbohydrates. During high intensity exercise, the ration can shift to 30 percent from fat and 60 percent from carbohydrates. Regardless of intensity, top performance requires both an adequate supply of and efficient use of carbohydrates.

KemTRACE® Chromium, Heat Stress, and Your Horse

Chromium has been shown to reduce body temperature and respiratory rate during heat stress. Evidence suggests insulin action is a key component of heat stress response. Chromium improves insulin function and results in efficient clearance of glucose to the bloodstream. Increased glucose uptake may improve thermal tolerance in heat-stressed animals.

KemTRACE® Chromium for Horses FAQ

Chromium is a trace mineral that helps improve glucose utilization for increased cellular energy and function. This results in better animal maintenance, growth, health, and performance. Chromium accomplishes this by optimizing insulin receptors on the cell allowing for increased glucose uptake. KemTRACE® Chromium supplies chromium to the diet in the form of chromium propionate.
